### Summary
**About the Position:**
Lake Shelbyville is an 11,100 acre lake located in rural South Central Illinois approximately 60 miles southeast of Springfield. The project office is located in the city of Shelbyville, population approximately 5,000. The authorized project purposes are flood control, recreation, environmental stewardship and water supply. Lake Shelbyville is an island in a sea of corn and offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities including camping, fishing, water sports, hiking, biking and large and small game.

### Responsibilities
* Participates in the day-to-day operation of recreation areas.
* Patrols project lands and water to ensure compliance with Federal regulations pertaining to parking, camping, noise level, sanitation, and safety
* Provides visitors with information concerning points of interest, travel routes, historical and natural features, and park activities.
* Assists visitors by performing search and rescue missions, first aid, and safety programs.
* Participates in natural resources management activities such as gathering data to be used in the development and updating of Operational Management Plans and/or Master Plans.
* Performs activities such as fish and wild life surveys, forest inventories, type mapping, firefighting prevention, suppression, controlled burning, encroachment and boundary line inspections.
* Develops and presents various programs of interest to park visitors and conducts research of topics using sources such as records, books, and files.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes participating in the day-to-day operation of recreation areas, investigating and/or reports any violations or accidents, and performing activities such as fish and wild life surveys, forest inventories, type mapping, firefighting prevention, suppression, controlled burning, encroachment and/or boundary line inspections.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time-In-Grade Requirement for GS-05 level: Current Federal Employees may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to the GS-05 level if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest nontemporary competitive appointment.
